GEL SET RELEASES BODY COPY LP

“What’s the content of your Body’s Copy?”

Houston born and Los Angeles based electronic experimentalist Gel Set has just released her ultra savvy new album Body Copy. An abstract and idiosyncratic work, it rests on its creator Laura Callier’s minimalist penchant for the odd and obscure as she attempts to document the surreal alienation of living in her adopted metropolis. Recorded DIY at her home in Koreatown, Body Copy is almost, as it’s name hints at, an out of body experience, one reflected through its myriad of left field synth sounds, her detached vocal style and dizzying array of influences. Despite its dissociative feel and ever present duality, its actually a remarkably cohesive work that strangely glides by without the need for much effort at the listening end. Listen to the two tracks she has released from the album thus far. The first is the pulsating ‘Don’t You Miss Me’, a track that yearns for answers she will in all probability never receive. The second is the insistent ‘Bounce’ where a rolling synth bass sound and an impatient beat busily career along at breakneck speed with only ethereal synths and her icy layered vocals to slow it down.
