Shibuya, Tokyo techno and sound producer Wata Igarashi recently released a new EP for New York City label The Bunker. The impressive four track Question And Answer, a release dealing with the themes of connection and communication which are represented by the diverse, thought provoking conversations between rhythm and melody that occur throughout each track. The EP begins with the intense rhythmic groove of ‘Outburst’, a track that rests on the growing expanse of its tripped out acid lines. ‘Train Of Thought’ is no less hypnotic with the off timing of its incessant electronic elements working hard alongside the beat. The title track sports an industrial rachet like drum sound engulfed by circular layers of trippy elastic melodies. The amazing final track ‘Broken Telephone’ exorcises the pacy and relentless rhythm of the first three tracks from proceedings and slow things down in one sense. But two repetitive discombulated loops at different pitch work at a frenetic pace to give the track a languid yet feverish vibe. Question And Answer is Igarashi’s second EP for The Bunker after 2016’s Mood Of The Machines and the third this year follows up the equally worthy Sekala and Niskala EP’s for the Berlin based Midgar imprint.
