Many Voices Speak, the musical project of Borlänge artist Matilda Mård, has released an instructively powerful new single called ‘Necessaries’. It’s dreamily insistent disposition reflects the freedom and humility associated with its subject matter. ‘Necessaries’ deals with the difficulties and opportunities that come from the loss of life’s certainties, especially when that certainty revolves around the subconscious need to rely on the love and presence of another for happiness. Such certainties will always be uncertain. Mård described the song thus;
“Necessaries is about the progress and crisis you find yourself in when your certainties weaken or even withdraw. It reflects my own attempts to replace cynicism with knowledge and humility for the conditions of life”
Necessaries is Mård’s first release since her impressive 2016 EP Away For All Time, which featured the memorable melancholy of ‘Video Child’. It’s available here through Strangers Candy and Hit City USA.
