TORRES SPRINTS TOWARDS DEBUT ALBUM

TORRES SPRINTS TOWARDS DEBUT ALBUM

Mackenzie Scott, the American singer-songwriter who goes by the band name Torres will release her ultra-impressive debut album, Sprinter next month and last week put out its equally impressive title track. The Georgia born artist penned the album in the middle of 2014 and then assembled an coterie of highly respected people to assist her in bringing it to fruition, among them backing band members Adrian Utley (Portishead) and Ian Oliver (PJ Harvey) as well as veteran producer/musician Rob Ellis. The PJ Harvey connection may lead some to quick conclusions. Simple word? Don’t.

Scott has said of the intimate and deeply personal album that while she was always going to put her own perspectives of her own story front and centre of the writing process, she chose characters to filter them through, avoiding the pitfalls associated with literal writing. Musically, it is unashamed in its rock sensibilities. Listen to ‘Sprinter’ below as well as another track from the record, ‘Strange Hellos’. Sprinter is out May 5 in the US and May 18 in UK/Europe/R.O.W. through Partisan. Pre-order here.
