Montreal artist/producer Genevieve Ryan Martel, aka RYAN Playground is set to put out her debut EP, Elle later this month through fellow Canadian Ryan Hemsworth’s Secret Songs label. Martel’s back story is quite varied having modelled for some five years while studying for a Science degree. But it’s the music side of things and her impressive new single, ‘Are You Mad’ that has our focus.
Attention to detail abounds at the intersection of rhythm and melody and while restless in parts there’s an enveloping languidness that pervades the track perhaps reflecting inner peace after tumult. Indeed, Martel has spoken of the track as being based on a personal issue that her and her partner had to overcome.
