London singer songwriter Dan Carney is one smart man. As a doctor of Developmental Psychology, I suppose then it should be no surprise that his songwriting and musicianship have at their core an ability to effortlessly embed themselves into the hook seeking brain. And those hooks are so, so subtle. Previously of band Dark Captain, Carney conceived his Astronauts project back in 2013 and after signing to Lo Recordings unveiled his debut EP, Hollow Ponds in 2014.

Now, he’s set to return with the follow up, End Codes. The first single, ‘Civil Engineer’ is the perfect embodiment of his ability to surreptitiously worm his way into your consciousness with an effecting and quick turn of chord. It’s a gorgeous combination of layered acoustic guitar that sparkles and shimmers over the top of a deep electronic rhythm rendered complete by Carney’s astutely acerbic lyrics delivered via unassuming vocal harmonies. Emotive maths anyone.

Listen to ‘Civil Engineer’ below and pre-order it digitally here complete with two remixes by Kieren Mahon and Bit Cloudy.  Release date is February 19. Look out for End Codes to drop via Lo Recordings sometime in April.
