While Portland veteran musician vocalist and songwriter M. Ward released his last album, A Wasteland Companion in 2012, it’s really been since Hold Time in 2009 that he’s released a record as good as his latest, More Rain. It’s not that A Wasteland Companion was not a worthy addition to Ward’s discography. Its just that when a proven artist who has been off the radar for a while releases collections of tracks over his initial but vital three year period as good as found on debut Transfiguration of Vincent (2003), Transistor Radio (2005) and Post-War (2006), there is an expectant aura. More Rain is album number eight for the softly sung artist and it doesn’t disappoint boasting a selection of timeless numbers that range from the rollicking to the fragile. It’s relevance reinforced in a nutshell. More Rain is out on Merge Records on March 4. Pre-order here. The first single, ‘Girl From Conejo Valley’ released last December last year is below.
