Los Angeles based artist Danielle Birritella is set to release her debut EP, Tiny Ocean under her Dia moniker. The title track, the name of which is anathema to its sound, begins in traditional almost baroque like fashion before soaring off into the ether with intermittent flourishes from a wide array of instrumental elements including electric guitar ukulele, tiple and cello. You wouldn’t really expect anything else from the the Cal Arts graduate and indeed, for the EP she enlisted support from fellow community luminaries Joey Warner (Atoms For Peace, Beck) and Tim Carr (HAIM) among others.
It’s a diverse affair showcasing songwriting depth and virtuosity in equal measure. Apart from the title track, highlights include the tropical subtlety of ‘Synchronized Swimming and the languid fluidity of ‘Prize Song. The EP is out on April 22 through Manimal Records.
