Istanbul experimental rock quartet Pitohui released their latest EP last week, Enspektör, their third extended player since forming in 2013. It’s a worldly, eclectic and dense affair combining adept, clockwork like instrumentation with small doses of electronics to both forceful and subtle effect. The writing as always came together as a result of sessions of improvisation but its gestation period was longer this time around due to the distance between members, some of whom had moved abroad. The final touches to the recording were made via long distance and given its precision and myriad of influences, its clear it was no small feat. You can grab a copy of Enspektör digitally HERE for a NYP arrangement while new label Domuz Records will be releasing the four tracks on cassette soon. Listen to two of the tracks below; the affecting psych-rock-jazz crossover of ‘MNS’ and the starry discipline of ‘Vatoz’.
