It’s hard to do justice to just how good, ‘Downhearted’, the debut single from Austin based artist Molly Burch, actually is. Her exquisite and faultless voice and the subtle and inventive use of multiple retrospectively inspired musical styles just sit so nicely around its undoubted country inspired centre that renders it a very modern take on a tried and true formula. Lyrically there is regret but also contentment. And rarely does a video do so much justice to the intention of its music but here Burch’s honest, humble and heartfelt presence and the black and white visuals fit the track perfectly. What a beginning! ‘Downhearted’ is out digitally and as a 7″ vinyl single through Captured Tracks on September 16. Pick it up here.
