There is little doubt that the work of Half Waif, the project of Nandi Rose Plunkett, with its restless sound and yearning approach lyrically reflects the diverse background of its protagonist. Her latest EP, form/a, continues that trajectory with its combination of the traditional in its aural context and the modern in its electronic delivery. Across its six tracks, Plunkett, seems to be on a never ending journey that has no home and no end and rather than that be a source of melancholy she seems happy to gift works that celebrate it. Three weeks back she shared the opening track, ‘Severed Logic’, a subtle piece of disconnected pop that constantly bubbles away just below the surface musically, never emerging but neither danger of being permanently submerged. We’ve also included the latest track shared, the disorienting folk pop of ‘Frost Bite’. Listen to the both tracks below. form/a is out February 24 through Cascine here. Half Waif is currently on tour through North America and Europe to support the record. Remaining dates are here.
