Hand Habits, the project of L.A based multi-instrumentalist Meg Duffy (Mega Bog, Kevin Morby Band) released her long awaited debut album last week. A work that in some ways oozes confidence but cautions that with its fragility, it’s lo-fi sound and heartfelt intimacy click together in humble unison. There’s a sense that Duffy wants to confess her inner thoughts but she never demands attention. That will come from the learned and patient listener organically and naturally and eventually effortlessly.
And that’s not to say she has not given her total self, her unique and intriguing vocals, intricate arrangements and movements on subtle themes speak volumes in that sense. It’s just that she just knows that self for what it is. A decent yet flawed human being like many of us, nothing more, nothing less and knowledgeable that it is but a void that awaits all of us in the end.
We’ve collected all four tracks shared from the LP below, including the video for the latest, ‘Demand It’. Wildly Idle (Humble Before The Void) is out on all formats on Woodsist. A more than worthy album of the week. Grab a copy on vinyl here.
