Friday saw Los Angeles based outfit Second Still release their self titled debut album. Largely resting on the band’s love for the colder climes the 80s French underground mixed in with elements of post punk and slithers of shoegaze, it’s an impressive first long player from the trio that takes you places you might not expect.
Twists and turns abound in the interplay between guitarist Ryan Walker and bassist Alex Hughes and those hypnotic, winding and delay drenched melodies situated within its cold functionality are perfectly suited to the emotive uncertainty of the lyrics delivered through Suki San’s unassuming yet authoritative vocals.
To coincide with the release of the album, ‘You Two So Alike’, the brief yet relentless third single was shared last week complete with video. Watch that and listen to the first two singles, ‘Strangers’ and ‘Recover’ below. The album is out through Parisian label Manic Depression and on limited edition cassette on Belgian imprint Sentimental. Get it here.
