If self imposed rules allowed for multiple entries from the same artist(s) simultaneously, all three lead up singles from Life After Youth, the upcoming new record from Elizabeth Powell’s Land Of Talk would simultaneously feature highly and heavily in our weekly Top 30. The latest is ‘Loving’, which features guest artist Sharon van Etten’s beautifully layered harmonies lending themselves to Powell’s silky, candy like vocals. When combined with open enveloping guitars and driving muscular bass which is expertly underpinned by drummer Bucky Wheaton’s effortless sense of timing, you’re left with smouldering example of mood inducing pop/rock gold ever so slowly and gently exploding all around you. Listen to ‘Loving’ below along with the atmospherically powerful and urgent ‘This Time’, which was shared a few weeks back and is arguably the best of the three. With ‘Inner Lover‘ still in the Top 10 it looks like our chart is going to feature a Land Of Talk track in it for much of the rest of the year. Life After Youth is out May 19. Pre-order it here. Highly recommended.
