“As an instrument, the synthesizer is designed to theoretically reproduce any imaginable structure of sound. I’ve always been much more interested in sound design than being able to ‘play well,’ and the synthesizer allows for a slow and thoughtful approach towards crafting sound. I occupy the role of a composer or conductor, in a sense, determining how the music sounds while employing my various instruments as the players.” Max Ravitz, Patricia.

Left field producer Max Ravitz is set to release his new triple album, Several Shades of The Same Color under his Patricia moniker. The enigmatic Chicago born and Brooklyn based based electronic experimentalist has crafted a sonic smorgasboard that is as distinct and it is diverse with the notion of suspending thought and inspiring instinctual physical movement in mind. This is generated through an encyclopaedic array of retro and futuristic techno and electronic inspired dance genres and approaches, from the celestial siren sounds of opener ‘I Know The Face But Not The Name’ to the hypnotic yet restless rhythms of ‘It Gets Worse At Night’. Deep and minimal dance floor intended cuts like ‘Shiba Inu Dub’ and ‘Feel Your Body’ more than take things up a notch while the electro punk of ‘German Friendship’ meticulously lays bare a crumbling industrial landscape.

The first track to be shared from the record is ‘Speed Wagon Night Bride’, a multifaceted and percussion heavy piece of fantastical ambience. Listen to that below and order your copy of the album here. It’s out July 14 on Ghostly International imprint Spectral Sounds in conjunction with Ravitz’s own label Active Cultures. Highly recommended.
