Melbourne jangle pop quartet Backyard shared their new single ‘Royal Park’ last week. It’s an explorative and hopeful track that sets its course from its undoubted down to earth centre and yearns for the unfamiliar, to go beyond the visible horizons. Gorgeous ringing guitar chords combine with jangled melodies and subtle hooks backed by a rhythm section that sets up its angles perfectly, the chemistry between the four is palpable. Vocalist/guitarist and founder Adnan Kadric explains the dual settings for the track;
“A new couple in a local motel and a man struggling to communicate in a foreign hospital; ‘Royal Park’ draws a parallel between these two stories by exploring the location in which they took place. With any luck, the pairing of the two will reveal that a place and its history can tie together two events decades apart.”
Stream ‘Royal Park’ below and head over to their bandcamp page to hear their previous two singles, ‘Reality Television’ and ‘Best View Of Dean St.’. All three are off their self titled EP which can be pre-ordered there too. It’s out on Habit Music on November 10.
