New York City dark wave duo R. Missing released their excellent debut EP Unsummering last week through Bordeaux based label Talitres. Eschewing unnecessary attention and preferring to allow their lyrics and music do the talking, vocalist/bassist Sharon Shy and multi-instrumentalist Toppy have delivered six personal tracks full of opaque but at times brutally open honesty whether it be critically channeled inwards at themselves or caustically deadpanned outwards at a narrow and unforgiving world. There is cognisance and intellect at work in lyrical content not only based on world weary life experience but also firmly rooted in the constant search for knowledge and in curiosities never satiated while musically, the lyrical tension is complemented by emotionally layered synth arrangements, intense beats and enveloping atmospherics.

Listen to the Unsummering’s first two singles, the dark and swirling title track which was shared today and the pulsating and rhythmically insistent ‘Kelly Was A Philistine’, (which is also accompanied by its video) and grab it on vinyl here.
