OLDEN YOLK UNVEIL FINAL SINGLE + VIDEO AHEAD OF SELF TITLED DEBUT

New York based DIY psych-pop outfit Olden Yolk, led by Caity Shafer and Shane Butler (Quilt), have shared the final lead in single and video ahead of the release of their self titled debut album this Friday. ‘Cut To The Quick’ is a glistening piece of economical psych tinged pop that slowly reveals a varied kitbag of musical influences across its breezy four minutes.

The self directed video was shot in New York City and Austin, two places the band have called home and is thematically based around the seemingly innocuous but ultimately fundamental vignettes of daily life that feed into the construction of identity. It also is reflective of the track’s bridge which denotes the courage and resistance of the LGBTQI+ community in the wake of the 2016 Orlando nightclub shooting and the solidarity and support that coalesced within and around them at the iconic Stonewall Inn in the days and weeks after the tragedy. The natural link between these two themes might be a bit too abstract for some Cisgender individuals.

‘Cut To The Quick’ follows on from earlier singles, ‘Takes One To Know One’ and Vital Sign’. The album is out February 23 on Trouble In Mind. It’s available physically here and digitally here.
