While renowned for her relentless live schedules, whoever booked Italian DJ/Producer Deborah de Luca’s Australian tour dates must trust that she possesses superhuman qualities. The Napoli based artist begins her whirlwind four date odyssey tonight at Geisha in Perth, the most isolated city on the planet, before flying across the continent on Saturday to play the Tell No Tales bash alongside Robert Hood, Derrick Carter, Laurent Garnier and Pan Pot in Sydney. From there all four of them hit the three day Babylon Festival in Bendigo for early Sunday am sets before de Luca gets a flight across to Adelaide where she ends her short stay with a sold out Sunday afternoon/evening rooftop session for The Front Room and Diffraction Agency at The Cathedral Hotel.
Notwithstanding the fact she’s visiting this blog’s fine city of Adelaide, which also is hosting its Techno Convention this weekend, her presence affords the chance to highlight her new two track EP ‘Atom’, which she dropped last month in collaboration with fellow Italian Alex Mine (Alessandro Martinelli). Both tracks are relentless and rest a little deceptively on classic techno elements where the magic largely lies in the discipline present in both application and presentation. A tense off-time loop effectively holds the title track together while atmospherics are given subtle adjustments around its outer edges. On the flip side, ‘Leading’ basks in deep emotive synth signatures of the short and long form as prominent snare sits compact atop a non-stop four to the floor beat for much of the track’s duration. Both tracks are complemented by imaginative and super crisp percussion. Listen to them below and get them digitally here through de Luca’s own imprint, sola_mente.
