Left field house collective Girls Of The Internet recently released a brand new track ‘Running’. Out digitally in its own right in early May, the new track will also appear on the vinyl reissue of ‘When You Go’, their exquisitely understated mix of house, dub and minimal techno from last year.
Girls Of The Internet’s multi pronged and elemental approach to song craft renders what is essentially a retro inspired tune unique and stylistically futuristic. Instrumentally and electronically meticulous in both form and delivery, ‘Running’ brings together a delicate fusion of soul and disco to its funk and deep house base. Elevating the soulful feel is the considerable vocal talents of Natalie Maddix of House Gospel Choir. Her authoritative vocals mostly follow the tracks rhythm but tellingly its her accentuations that take on a life of their own. The nuanced timing of the kick drum up against the natural percussive elements and the deep bass line drive the track’s relentless groove which, when combined with touches of warm synth and a minimal recurring funked up guitar riff, creates a determined yet inviting glow.
Along with the aforementioned ‘When U Go’ and the recent ‘Love Delicious’ which made number one on our Top 30 recently, ‘Running’ more than completes a hat trick of highly impressive releases since their return from a three year hiatus in 2017. Listen to the spotify stream of it below and grab it digitally through their own Drab Queen Records here. The When You Go 12″ will available through Ramp Records on May 25th. Order your copy here.
