Sydney electronic pop artist JEFFE has self-released her deceptively buoyant new single ‘Undecided’. It rests on a quartet of winning elements that never veer from their subtle, smart and soulful brief to create a multi tonal world of juxtaposed emotions. Jeffe’s own dextrously applied vocals and her assonant idiosyncratic delivery is perfectly complimented by the track’s central motif, three woozy synth chords smartly employed and timbre focused. A supple rhythm, an elastic groove and ethereal electronics oscillating between dark and light increase the track’s dimensional allure and compliment its lyrical themes of relationship related risk aversion and anxious uncertainty.
No single element in ‘Undecided’, including the vocals, ever takes centre stage and that’s the key to why the track is so good. Together with producer Dave Hammer, JEFFE has penned and delivered a thoughtful and original pop gem of the highest calibre, with much of it down a creative working filter fitted with generous helpings of humility and understatement.
