Belgian avant-garde pop quintet Balthazar have returned from their self imposed hiatus with a brand new single ‘Fever’, the shuffling and funk infused title track from their forthcoming album to be released in January. Fever will be the fourth long player from the Jinte Deprez and Maarten Devoldere led outfit and their first since 2015’s Thin Walls. The break saw Deprez explore his love for R&B as J. Bernardt while Devoldere released We Fucked A Flame Into Being and its self titled follow up under his Warhaus moniker decamping to Kyrgyzstan thereafter. Straight off the bat, with its rolling bass, striking strings and vocal harmonies ‘Fever’ is indicative of a change in sound and approach and marks more relaxed and less introspective approach to songwriting for the duo. About the pivotal relationship of title track to the album itself, Delvoldere states;
“Some songs felt like classic Balthazar pop songs, others a little more chipper, but it wasn’t until we had ‘Fever’ that we had the foundation for the rest of the album.”
