SO CRATES, ALNITAK KID & MC NELSON DIALECT COME TOGETHER FOR SUNSET CITIES SINGLE; LISTEN TO “BLACK TAPES”

“The record follows the cycle of the sun, no beginnings and no endings, just answers to this and many other questions using the voice, the drum and the body electric. When was the last time you watched the sunset?” Bandcamp.

One of our most loved Australian labels Bedroom Suck Records are the home of the highest new entry in our Top 30 this week. ‘Black Tapes’ is a track from the new collaborative Sunset Cities single project between Adelaide producer Alnitak Kid and MC Nelson Dialect and Melbourne producer Skomes and MC Cazeaux O.S.L.O. aka SO. Crates. According to the foursome, the project brings together aspects of hip hop and psychedelic soul and does it in such a way that this blog, not known for its hip-hop bent, was drawn to it instantly. It’s authenticity, musically downtempo nature, glowing melodies and the superb delivery of its memory laden lyrics (as well as being reminded of VHS tapes – yes I was well and truly alive then) immediately struck a chord.

Listen to ‘Black Tapes’ below with Alnitak Kid at the boards and MC’s Cazeaux O.S.L.O. and Nelson Dialect on the mic in that order. It forms the flip side of a single that will see Skomes provide production on the other. That will see release later this month with the launch at Howler in Melbourne on November 23. You can buy ‘Black Tapes’ now digitally here.

You can also find the track in our New & Independent Electronic and Experimental Playlist on Spotify here with 29 other ‘out there’ musical constructions.
