PLAYLIST UPDATE NOVEMBER 13: Kicking our New Independent & Underground Techno Spotify Playlist off in the best possible way is German duo Hidden Empire with ‘Cashmere’ the title track off their new EP for Octopus Recordings and Berlin born producer SLV with ‘Dreamscapes’ off his new EP Reflected Light. We then feature two tracks from another Berliner Eskapist whose two volume release we covered here yesterday as well as Sian‘s ‘Dial Up’ from his new warehouse EP 002, also for Octopus. Following that are three tracks from the new Continuum II: Magno Hyacinthium compilation for Dynamic Reflection. English left field techno wizard Jamie Roberts aka Blawan, Stuttgart’s Obscure Shape & Marco Blaesi aka SHDW and Amsterdam based producer Stefan Vincent each deliver one in that order. They join work by Berlin based producer and long time Berghain resident Steffi and Ukrainian duo Woo York who contributed to the first volume Continuum I: Terra Nova last month – you can find those two tracks later in the playlist.

PLAYLIST UPDATE OCTOBER 8: There goes the neighbourhood. The whole New Independent & Underground Techno Spotify Playlist has undergone a complete overhaul since our last written update on September 7 with 30 brand new tracks released to streaming services – with only three featuring women most annoyingly (yep, its still a dickfest (but a good dickfest) !). The release date for the lists’ final track, the rhythmic thumper ‘Her Eyes Tightly Closed’ by Detroit raised and Berlin based Altstadt Echo from his EP 1954 for Modern Cathedrals, is September 10 so without further delay lets get into the 29 that precede it.
We begin with the insistent rhythmic ambience of ‘Umalog’ from Paris based producer Von Grall. It can be found on the new four track compilation Collisioni Sonore Pt. 1 from Italian label Unità Psicofisica. That’s followed by spook filled frequencies of ‘Functional’ from London based Forest Drive West who recently unleashed his first straight techno EP on Neighborhood Records after the breakbeat and drum and bass inspired Set Free EP from earlier this year. He also has his debut album Apparitions coming out on Livity Records this Friday. Next is Spektre, the production duo of Richard Wakley & Paul Maddox, with the title track to their new EP Eye of The Swarm on Filth On Acid This is before Will Kinsella, aka Hybrasil enters the fray with ‘Anubis’ the closing track off his latest EP for Break New Soil, Ascended. The fifth track of the playlist belongs to the pummeling lead track ‘Unrestricted’ off the new six track EP State Of Existence for Planet Rhythm from producer Gianluca Caiati, aka Kaiser.
Beginning the next group of five tracks in Spanish producer Regal who returns with ‘Babel’, a track which trades in traditional drum fills and is nothing short of an inexorable acid bath throughout. It’s off his new EP Still Raving for Involve Records. Speaking of drums, Italian techno producer Roby M. Rage has a new single out called ‘Move’. as you’d expect its a booming number. Out on Ying Yang. Next we take things down a notch in the bpm stakes and ratchet up the groove with some melodic techno in the form of the A side ‘Enigma’ to the new two track EP from Swiss producer Jeremy Vieira aka Several Definitions. That’s on German label Parquet Recordings. Keeping it in that ballpark are Austrian electronic duo HVOB consisting of Anna Müller and Paul Wallner. They have a new double a sided single ‘Eraser/Zinc’ out through PIAS Recordings. ‘Eraser’ sports a killer vocal sample reminding us all of what is inevitable and not to be feared. The next track is the busy ambience of the amazing ‘No Clouds’ from the combination of English producer Aubrey and Italian equivalent Simone Gatto who we featured last week. The superb Spring Sun Blues EP on Curle Recordings contains that and our current Top 30 listed track ‘A051’.
Polish DJ/Producer Tom Palash is up next with the powerfully patient ‘Chamber’ the title track from his new EP for Subraum. Following him is the deep and measured techno of Abstract Man with ‘Perception’ from their new EP Pillar. London’s Warm Up Records is where you’ll find the new Oisel EP Entroterra. It’s available now digitally and later in the month on vinyl. The vinyl version contains four tracks from the Italian producer and the digital seven. And its ‘SAT04’ the full on syncopated and acid driven penultimate track on the digital version that grabbed our attention. German DJ/Producer Johnny Island follows with straight lines of ‘Decomposition’ from his new EP Radius for SMGRD. You can almost feel those lines begin to channel the breaking down of matter before your very ears. That precedes the teleportation like ‘Gorgon’ the title track from Swedish producer Joel Mull‘s new EP for Amsterdam’s Mary Go Wild Records.
We stay in Sweden for the brilliantly contrived ‘Now Or Never’, the insular left field ambient stomper from Fabian Kempe aka Korridor who just released his intensely personal new album End Of Cycle on Northern Electronics. Now next, if you want a stomper with no filter whatsoever that does not let up for one second, the waste laying no holds barred intensity of ‘Tension Arm’ from Positive Centre, the experimental techno project of English producer Michael Jefford is definitely for you. It’s from his new EP Ancestor One, the fifth release on his Portuguese based In Silent Series label. The next track should be more than familiar to you all. Ellen Allien‘s superb 10 minute plus call to arms ‘Take A Stand’ the title track from her new EP on Nonplus Records will be high up among the best techno tracks for the year. Galicia based Argentine producer Julixo is up next with the polyrhythmic ‘Inusual Rhythm’ off his Laboratorios Dhrona EP for Gomboc and he is followed by Oakland producer Justin Pennell, aka JX-216 with the hard arse thumper, ‘Xingu’ from his new two track EP for BEK Audio.
English producer Jon Rundell follows with deep enveloping bass driven title track to his new EP Wormhole on Octopus Black and thereafter comes the combination of Dutch producer Malin Genie and techno experimentalist Yaleesa Hall with the off the wall ‘Oganesson’ the title track from their recent EP on Malin’s own label, Malin Genie. Following the Amsterdam based pair is Leipzig producer Stefan Schmidt-Dichte aka Perm with the trippy, beat focused ambience ‘Lukwa’ from his five track EP for R.L. Lingo on LACKrec. Luke Slater’s L.B. Dub Corp. follows with the low end dominant dub of ‘Roar’ the title track from his new three track EP on Lucy’s Stroboscopic Artefacts.
On the home stretch now in this monster write up. The next track comes from German producer YENI. Her new two track EP The News saw release on Ballroom in mid September and the superbly constructed thumper of a title track is our pick of the two. The legendary precision that Marcel Dettman is known for is no better in evidence that on the next track ‘Metalloid’, the closer on the long standing Berghain resident’s recent six track Test File EP for his Ostgut Ton. Seleccion Natural, the quartet consisting of Spanish techno purists Oscar Mulero, Juan Rico, Valentin Corujo & Hector Sandoval are next with the drum heavy and atmospherically tuneful ‘Replicant Isolation’ a track from the third and final tranche of slow drip releases emanating from their superb self titled debut record celebrating Polegroup‘s 50th release. The first of the final two tracks in this write up is the clockwork like, ‘Wächter der Nacht’ from Stuttgart duo SHDW and Obscure Shape from their latest EP Die Augen des Teufels on From Another Mind while the penultimate track overall is the relentless and massive ‘Figure’, part of a two track EP for Defensive Music from Hamburg duo Kaiserdisco.
PLAYLIST UPDATE SEPTEMBER 9: Darkness abounds briefly lightened up front in this special mini-update to mark two special releases, one we reviewed today here and the other is our current album of the week. The superlative new EP Transition by Rome Techno Producer/Sound Engineer Neel (Giuseppe Tilleci) was released Friday on Token and the transportive debut album La Via Della Seta by ambient techno duo and fellow Italians Primal Code was released to streaming services by Hypnus. The latter is our current album of the week.
To further mark the occasion of recently reviewing Juan Rico’s new Architectural‘s EP we bring you three missed releases from July from Rico’s fellow Source Artists Svarog, Kwartz & Kessell, the latter moniker belonging to Valentin Corujo who with Hector Sandoval is Exium and one quarter of Seleccion Natural. We also missed the LP Filo Loves The Acid from Donato Dozzy, Tillieci’s partner in crime in Voices At The Lake and co-owner of Spazio Disponibile. Life is a learning curve folks! We also include a track from San Francisco producer Amber Cox whose new EP Grimm Tales for Occultists we wrote about yesterday.
There’s two cuts off the bat from Primal Code, the instantly affirming ‘Morgana’ and the mesmerising ‘Purpure’ as well as a dose of dark techno minimalism from Cox in the form of ‘Invisible Wall’. Neel‘s Transition, which we just reviewed has the rare honour of occupying the the next four places with ‘Afnio (Hafnium)’, ‘Renio (Rhenium)’, ‘Osmio (Osmium)’ & ‘Vanadio (Vanadium)’ as we feature it in all its inspirational entirety. Then we feature the title track from Architectural‘s A Girl With No Friends EP through Ellum Black which replaces the sublime ‘Romanticism Movement’.
The sadly overlooked trio of tracks begins with deep and dark ‘Decepticons’ from Lviv Producer Oleska Moroz aka Svarog, off his EP Transformers released at the end of July on Northallsen. That’s followed up by Corujo’s Kessell with the arpeggio dominated hypnotic stomper ‘Pentagon, the track he contributed towards the 5th compillation from his label Granulart. The final piece is in the forgotten Source Artist trilogy is from Madrid’s Mario Campos aka Kwartz and we feature the stinger of a title track from his six tracker Body Sedation released through Horo in late June. Last but not least is the enigmatic Donato Dozzy with the heightened ‘Duetto’ from Filo Loves The Acid on Tresor.
PLAYLIST UPDATE SEPTEMBER 3: A huge turnover in our Techno chart playlist since the middle of August sees no fewer than 20 new tracks added. We begin with some hard left field business from Rotterdam’s Berg Jaãr. ‘Od’ is from his fresh Planet Rhythm released Silo EP. Following Jaãr are mysterious Swedish drone and noise experimentalists SHXCXCHCXSH with the superb title track to their new five track EP SHULULULU (Avian). Another Swede is next up. Dold has been gaining notice with some stellar releases including the supply of a track to the Polegroup compilation Unknown Landscapes Vol 5. The title track off his new EP called Version on Interstate, is a work of polar opposites, upbeat in rhythm yet dark in its eerie effects.
We were undecided as to the playlist Francesca Lombardo‘s techno infused new track ‘Spondylus’ would go into , given the House list takes care of Tech-House as well. It could be said that its far too straight lined to be House and a little bubbly to be declared immediately without hesitation techno. Nevertheless after five days in the House list it rightly moves to this one. We’re just glad we can feature it as she’s releasing it through Anja Schneider’s independent SoUS label this time after she allowed her brilliant single from earlier in the year ‘Eye Ring’ to be ultimately licensed to Sony unfortunately rendering it persona non grata around here.
Thankfully there are five and not two women in this playlist after our diatribe last update. It’s still not enough though. Following Lombardo is Berlin based Russian Producer Yulia Niko with the pulsating drive of ‘Tantra’ the title track from her new and seventh EP of 2018 . She’s been slowly veering away from her House roots and after some Tech-House offerings sets the course firmly in the direction of Techno on this Descend release. Following Niko is Berlin based Englishman Paul Rose, whose SCB project makes another techno playlist with the intense grooves of ‘Hexagon’ from his new EP Test Cut (Hotflush).
New York City artist and producer Lauren Flax delivers arguably one of the track’s of the playlist next even though there is argument around whether its techno or tech house of jackin house even. Whatever it is and its techno in our book, the urgent analog driven ‘Sequenc_tial Discord from her new EP, the sixteenth release from the Dance Trax label is fucking awesome. Next is the relentless glassy power of ‘ZZZ’, the third and final track from Kiev DJ/Producer Yan Cook‘s new EP Toxin on Soma. That’s followed by Swiss legend Thomas Fehlmann‘s measured and minimal almost liquid inspired new single for Kompakt,. ‘Window’ manages to takes things down a notch in mesmerising fashion without losing momentum.
The epic groove established on the eleven minute wonder ‘Romanticism Movement’ from Architectural, the moniker representing Juan Rico’s more sentimental side will blow you away. Read our review of the A Girl With No Friends EP it comes from here. Out on Ellum Black. Folllowing that takes some doing but Bulgarian DJ/Producer Gallya is up to it with the tripped out intensity of ‘Behind’ from her new EP Elements (Form Music) as is Belgrade producer Milos Pesovic with his reverberating and perfectly paced new single for Mincode, You Ready.
The seemingly Andes inspired ‘Bub’, Darren Emerson‘s excellent contribution the EP 3D Ep2 on Selador is the standout alongside solid outings from Dave Seaman and Danny Howells. Locked Groove are next with with ‘The Gate’ their collaborative opener with Innershades off the EP of the same name. Axel Wilner returns as The Field with a new album Infinite Moment set for next month on Kompakt. The first cut heard from it is the atmospheric and vocal loop heavy ‘Who Goes There’.
Now the list moves into harder edged phase beginning with ‘Ryn’ from Berlin’s Boy Next Door. Despite containing a number of mainstay techno effects, it somehow exudes a raw locomotive power that doesn’t just come from the lag between the beat and the ever shifting often steaming percussion not to mention the myriad of different sounds emanating from flattened acid inspired low end. Its from the Lima Ryn EP on Audiophile Deep. Young French producer Marla Singer ups the ante even further with the nebulous intensity of ‘Path’ the title track from his new EP. With its pacy rhythm and massive hypnotic textures it clearly takes inspiration from the Polegroup camp among others.
Scottish duo Slam return with another smackdown of a track ‘Destrakt from their new EP Synchro (Soma) and following them is the inordinate toughness and the super lithe textures of ‘Continuity’ from the criminally underrated Armenian producer Tøtal who just released seriously good debut full length Arrival (Death Bell).
The last two new tracks added since the last update return decorum somewhat to proceedings. The first sees UK Producer Ben Long & Oliver Way team up to produce the blippy acid tinged title track from Long’s new EP Cold Crushed (Soul Matters). The second has Mattia Pompeo wrapping things up before the older tracks kick in with the slow groove and bass heavy ‘Circle’ from the EP Arctic Circle.
PLAYLIST UPDATE AUGUST 20: Today saw Spanish producer NØLAH release her new percussion rich EP Ansuz/Dagaz. The melodic techno cut from the record is the straight lined ‘Anzus’ while we’ve included the more groove and house oriented ‘Dagaz’ in the House Playlist here.
PLAYLIST UPDATE AUGUST 18: Before we kick off with the Techno update, once again we bemoan the lack of female representation. There is not one woman among the 16 new additions since our last update and just two in this 30 track playlist. This is not good enough. We think a female only release calendar is badly needed so as to ascertain what percentage of released material is female and so that music lovers like ourselves can actually find releases by women. Given the low percentage of female artists represented in the release numbers in any given week even trying to find them among thousands of weekly releases by men can be an impossible task. If we have missed a stellar release from a female artist in either House or Techno over the past three to four weeks please get in touch and let us know. And to those who say we should just concentrate on the music no matter what gender produced it we say this to them;
We (who are men ourselves) are deeply unhappy and frustrated living in discriminatory world of double standards that culturally and structurally limits opportunities for women and excludes them from decision making and exercising power. If we feel like this, other men must imagine and ask themselves how it must be to be female.
Lack of female representation notwithstanding, the overall quality of these 16 new tracks is very strong. Headed by Montreal’s Tony Papadopoulos aka Tone Depth,who continues to push the boundaries with his latest track ‘Beirut’ for Fryhide, a cultural melting pot of experimental yet immediately accessible global infused techno with a contextually appropriate Levant guitar sample to die for. Bordeaux based brothers David & Nicolas Gaugain aka G-Prod, were featured here a week back with busy minimalist acid pinger ‘D-Tach’, from their new EP Alchemic on Specimen. Fellow Frenchmen Benjamin Charriere & Etienne Laurent aka Losless, who we also featured a week or so ago followed up their excellent Keyou EP with the crisp acid lines and nocturnal feel of ‘Locators’ for SMB.
Next up is Colombian DJ/Producer Gotshell. Hailing from Pereira he just released his new EP First Tomorrow on Mord. The track we’ve gone with is ‘Ascirez’, a relentless subtle fusion between an industrial landscape and the deepest rainforest. Bologna based Italian DJ/Producer Mattia Trani owner of Pushmaster Discs is in with the deep outward looking and futuristic ‘Arachnide’ from his Collider EP for UNCAGE. American DJ Producer based in Detroit Ryan Malony aka Uun, released his Tibetan inspired Exhumed Tapes II EP for Berlin label Modern Cathedrals. The urgent yet ambient opener Exhumed II.I channels the sound of the plateau. Uun also has a new EP coming soon on No Future But What We Make which is streaming over at the HATE Youtube channel.
Barcelona based Argentinian DJ/Producer Flug released a new two track EP Shift/Revar on Suara. ‘Revar’ is another dose of tough and tidy techno from the an ultra-consistent artist. Manchester/Berlin based Sam Coates aka Setaoc Mass, released his new EP Flying Machine EP for Figure and its tactile intensity and duality makes ‘Search Lights’ our favourite track. Fellow Manchester based producer Transcode released a new EP in recent weeks called Altered Reality for Filth On Acid. The super produced spacious thumper ‘Arbitrage’ is the standout.
Aquaregia, the Toronto founded label of Emily Nicoll recently unveiled Part 3 of their Paleo series which features ‘Astero Ceras’ one of three deep melodic techno gems by former Vancouver and now Berlin based DJ/Producer 747. Hamburg’s Frederic Berger and Patrick Buck aka Kaiserdisco & Karotte put out their Stork & Crane EP for Elevate late last month and the upbeat ‘Stork’ is next. We featured the new Whities 017 EP from Toronto’s Nathan Micay (Bwana) last week and its diversity meant that ‘Beginning Ballads’ ended up here while its flip side ended up in the House playlist.
Spanish producers Tensal and P.E.A.R.L. founded a new project called CRVEL and last month dropped the ultra impressive hard techno inspired Veritate et Ordine EP digitally on P.E.A.R.L.S. own Falling Ethics. It’s opening track ‘VEO I’ is our pick for the playlist. Equally impressive was the Paranoid EP from Italian producer Jacopo Lattanzio aka JLTZ for Planet Rhythm and we were blown away by ‘Dejection’ to the point that it hit our main Top 30 chart that week.
The last two tracks come from an English veteran and a French newcomer. Berlin based Paul Rose’s SCB moniker just release Degrees Of Intelligence on his Hotflush label and closing track ‘Traffic On The Hyperway’ is a work of art in its locomotive qualities. Paris based Leo Pol released his Dark Outside EP digitally at the end of July on Bass Culture. The minimal techno of ‘Technyes No’ is our pick for this playlist but his versatility means that he also has tracks from it in our House and Experimental & Electronic playlists too.
PLAYLIST UPDATE AUGUST 3: This playlist update begins with a Polish one-two. First up is Klaudia Gawlas with the sparse yet immense ‘Manifest’, the title track from her new EP which is out this week on Blackrod. Also out this week is the Unbroken EP (Natch Records/Elements) from Warsaw producer Pawel Zawadzki aka Concept of Thrill. We’ve featured ‘Struktura’ in the list over the past few weeks and as that leaves the ominous locomotive like closer ‘Zaret’ which is equally impressive replaces it.. The inside and understated work of the title track with its thunderous rhythms leads the 10 new entries.
Hamburg artist/producer Helena Hauff‘s long awaited new album Qualm (Ninja Tune) was released today. The distorted effects laden ‘Lifestyle Guru’ gets our nod as one of the best tracks on what is a strong and fiercely made independent release . Following that is Cardiff DJ/Producer Robert James Pike aka Heartless, with ‘Internal Voice’, a disorienting work of thrillingly unremitting discombobulation . It’s opens the B side on his new EP Inner Crosstalk (6dimensions). The ever important question of gender equality and the robotic age we are fast moving towards are the salient subjects again tackled by the brilliantly inventive Serena Butler on her/his new EP We Want Neither Clean Hands Nor Beautiful Souls (Stroboscopic Artefacts). Click on the title for our review of it.
Next is the strange allure of the restless ‘Spectre’. The title track from Aether‘s debut EP on Afterlife is imbued with equal parts melodic and experimental intent possessing dissociative qualities that never allow the track to quite catch or adhere to its groove. That’s followed by legendary Japanese DJ/producer Ken Ishii who has again teamed with Stick Recordings aficionado Alberto Ruiz to produce the thumping ‘Parallel’.
Dax J has been releasing some mighty fine techno lately releasing his second full length album this year, No Redemption (Monnom Black). The mysterious ‘Russian Blood Lines’ is another fine example. We haven’t been able to feature much from Drumcode lately so its a good thing that Webbha is carrying the torch with the one part melodic, one part rabid urgency of the title track off his new EP Catarse. Speaking of rabid urgency, the huge sound of Ricardo Rodriguez aka Industrialyzer (Suara), is next with ultra intense ‘Balance Motions’ off an ep of the same name before Italian artist Hollen brings a bit of decorum to proceedings and completes the update with the the beautifully paced title track to his new EP Script (OFF Recordings)
PLAYLIST UPDATE JUNE 23 (in order of release date):
The blistering ‘Argo’, the industrial inspired title track from the new EP by Parisian duo WLDERZ on Skryptōm is the first of 10 diverse new additions to update our Techno playlist. To illustrate the diversity on offer, following that is the entrancing minimalism of ‘Keep Under Wraps’ from Bristol based multi-genre electronic experimentalist Kayla Painter. That’s out through Drawstring Records. Both those tracks were released on Friday. Yerevan DJ/Producer Razmik Makhsudyan aka Tøtal, released his excellent new EP NGC 2207 earlier in the week on his own Death Bell label and the restless NGC 4676 is the pick of three here while the solid ‘Time’ follows from Metodi Hristov‘s and Gallya‘s new EP White Lines on Octopus.
BleeD Records, the label of London producer Volte Face has released its first compilation called Social Sculpture and as you’d expect there’s some excellent experimental fare to be had. Three tracks out of the eight are in the list; Chiba City and Paris experimentalists DJ Nobu & BLNDR‘s ‘Fish’ and ‘Doepfer Exercise’ respectively are mesmerising fare in very different ways as is the pounding ‘Shit Business’ from Rote, the project of Daniel Avery and Volte Face himself.
Next is the foreboding circular monster ‘Greywacke’ from London hard techno DJ/producer Romek Boyer, aka Rommek is from Sedimentary, the second release in his Set In Stone Trilogy out on Blueprint. Italian dark techno duo Andrea Vallisneri and Andrea Casari aka VII Circle have a new split EP out with Barcelona based Memorial Home, the project of France’s Paul Roux & Belgian Jeremy Pinchasi for their label Rapid Eye Movement. Both tracks in from it ”Dogma’ and ‘Second Floor’ expertly unsettle in different ways.

Five new tracks in our update this week. The opener is the immersive and powerful ‘Brunette Cistern’ from Toronto experimental producer E-Saggila (Rita Mikhael) who last Friday released her excellent six track album Dedicated To Sublimity on New York City’s Bank Records. Next is the spatially powerful title track ‘Enigma’ from Birmingham DJ/Producer Rebekah whose three track EP on Soma quickly follows up her excellent album from March, My Heart Bleeds Black. The razor sharp ‘Flare’ by London producer Sigha (James Shaw) follows from his new four track untitled EP on Token before the ultra buoyant ‘Struktura’ from Warsaw producer Concept of Thrill (Paweł Zawadzki) from his new EP Unbroken on Natch Records/Elements ends the initial attack. Fellow English producer Max Cooper then takes things down a notch or two with the detailed atmospherics of Identity off his forthcoming album One Hundred Billion Sparks due in September on his own Mesh label. We’ve subsituted the La Fraicher and Echologist tracks too. With the former, the busy closer from Self Fulfilling Prophecy ‘La Plant’ replaces ‘Eaux Troubles’ while from the latter’s In Transit EP the buried ‘Raise’ replaces ‘Dispatch’. On InFiné and Mord respectively.

Echologist (RSA/USA) – Dispatch / (Mord)
South African born and New York based producer Brendan Moeller buries the recurring synth motif deep inside an enveloping multi speed sound vortex on the excellent ‘Dispatch’, the centrepiece of ‘his new EP on Mord, In Transit under his Echologist moniker.
SØS Gunver Ryberg (DEN) – Lazayak (Noise Manifesto)
Last week Danish composer and techno experimentalist SØS Gunver Ryberg dropped her new EP SOFALD, on Paula Temple’s Noise Manifesto. The addictive pummeling echo of ‘Lazayak’ is the most immediate of its six experimental works.
Seleccion Natural (ESP) – Negative Selection (PoleGroup)
Selección Natural is the amazing collaboration between PoleGroup mainstays Oscar Mulero, Valentín Corujo and Héctor Sandoval (Exium) and Juan Rico (Reeko). ‘Negative Selection’ comes from the digital only 2 track bonus EP that accompanies the self titled album and recent Indie30 Album of the Week they released in May to mark the Spanish label’s 50th release. Rush Plus (USA) – Sweat (E-Missions)
Washington DC producers Jackson Ryland, Jus Nowhere make up Rush Plus, the project they began in 2016. Their new EP homes in on what they term as the Third Sound, found in the spaces between audible sounds and aided by velocity and speed, two aspects found in abundance on the busy and pacy ‘Rebirth’.
Martyn (NET) – World Gate (Ostgut Ton)
The Dutch producer’s eclectic new album Voids is an impressive affair and the muscular punch and crunch of the glassy’World Gate’ is one of its standouts.
Djrum (ENG) – Sex (R&S)
English producer Felix Manuel is set to release his new album Portraits of Firewood. ‘Sex’ is an amazingly multi-dimensional track that is cloaked in dubstep beats and a techno vibe. Excepts of emotive piano and violin step in to traditionally offset the amazing futuristic sound generation that emanates from expertly arranged percussion and field recordings.
Boston 168 (ITA) – Straight To Light (Bpitch Control)
Italian techno soundscapists Sergio Pace and Vincenzo Ferramosca expertly construct a pensive journey steeped in contemporary and traditional approaches on the analog driven ‘Straight To Light’ from their new EP Drops of Heaven.
Charlotte De Witte (BEL) – Silence (NovaMute)
The lithe, minimal and disciplined ‘Silence’ is the standout from The Healer, the new four track EP on NovaMute from Ghent DJ/Producer Charlotte de Witte.
Dani Sbert (ESP) – Titanium (UFO Recordings)
Mallorca DJ/Producer Dani Sbert’s ultra prolific 2018 continues this week as he leads of our playlist with the authoritative ‘Titanium’, the title track off what we think is his 36th EP or single release to go with his album from late May Beggining of Somethng The Album (sic).
Montrez (ENG) – Caffeine (Minimal Systems Recordings)
We have no idea who Montrez is but do know three things. He is male. The moniker is connected to Minimal Systems Recordings, the record label of English independent music development and production company Studio Toolz. And the track in composition and production is killer.
Marco Bailey (BEL) & Dani Rodriguez (ESP) – Forces (Materio)
The relentless and alarming ‘Forces’ is from Meeting Forces, the new collaborative EP from the Belgian based producers.
ANNA (BRA) – Razor (NovaMute)
Brazilian DJ/Producer ANNA’s new EP Razor was actually released on May 25 but appeared on Spotify only a couple of weeks back. The sharp feel of the title track is very much in keeping with its title and heavily utilises a vintage Roland MKS-80, one of her favourite hardware pieces.
Blawan (ENG) – Klade (TERNESC)
After a warped and disheveled beginning. a commanding beat and hypnotic percussion unsuccessfully try to centre ‘Klade’ the opener of Blawan’s debut album Wet Will Always Dry’ as it continues on its mesmerisingly strange flight path into the experimental abyss.
