Austin based trio Grivo released their excellent debut album Elude last Friday and today sees them share a brand new video for weighty album opener, ‘H.D.C.’ As sprawlingly widescreen visually as it is musically, the video aligns with track’s sonic trajectory, metaphorically representative of the disorienting disconnect and crushing loss that occurs when a significant relationship begins to fracture or fade and ultimately ends. And any kind of healing or closure seems immediately impossible.
Indeed, Elude as a whole is one hell of an emotional ride, its slow, grinding feel reflecting chief songwriter and band co-founder Timothy Heck’s melancholic disposition. That said, therein through the gloom lies an intensity of energy stemming from the substantive and elongated chord driven melodies and the muscular rhythmic structures that underpin them. Elements that denote the shifting middle ground existing between vulnerability and defiance, despondency and renewal.
