NO WIN, the Californian pop/rock based outfit led by ex-Fidlar member Danny Nogueiras have shared the lyrically raw yet immensely pleasurable, ‘Shelley Duval’ their third single from their forthcoming debut record downey. It follows on from the album’s first single, the excellent guitar hook heavy ‘Vision’ released last month and featured in our pop/rock playlist on Spotify and the first and album opener ‘After Your Legs’.
In different ways, all three tracks simultaneously capture the heartache, bliss and generally bittersweet nature that characterises the album’s humanistic dynamic and Nogueiras’ past experiences. Life and relationships are phenomenologically and emotionally and complex! Both promulgators and devotees of independent music understand this. This complexity is perfectly summed up by Nogueiras himself in his aims for how he would like the record to be received.
“I want people to walk away from this record with a weird mix of emotions. I’d like someone to say that what I think is the saddest song on the record makes them feel super happy. I want it to be ambiguous and mixed and I want them to feel happy and sad. I want it to be a weird and honest mix of real human emotion.”
downey is out on Dangerbird Records on March 22. Pre-order it here. Listen to both ‘Shelley Duval’ and ‘Vision’ below while you can find the former in our aforementioned New Pop/Rock playlist here while the latter is safely tucked away with 100 other tracks in our growing 2019 playlist featuring every Pop/Rock track we include in that genre’s new music playlist during the upcoming year.
