Viennese based Techno DJ/Producer and Tresor resident Claudia Anderson released her new five cut EP, Synthesis to streaming services last week. Anderson has spent much of her seven or so years in electronic music largely concentrating on developing her DJ chops and delivering withering techno sets at raves and underground clubs as well as contributing mixes for a variety of respected techno collectives and labels, her association with Berlin club Tresor beginning last year. During this time she has been patiently and intently building her modus operandi in terms of production and Synthesis is just her third EP and first since Liquid Forms for Singular in 2015.
Synthesis is a release that largely rests on three focused pieces of forceful yet functional techno where a kind of hypnotic yet heightened restraint abounds in different forms. ‘Structure’, ‘Involvement’ and the title track are all based around employing precise gradations of different sounds and then sweeping then up with subtle and gradual movements all of which become a little like a maelstrom contained inside a structure of mesmerising Indigenous rhythms that themselves coil tightly around a relentless kick. The interluding middle track ‘H-1 A.P.’ is beatless and built around cleverly constructed static ambience while closer ‘Momentum’ adds another dimension as it slowly builds an echo laden breakbeat into loose milieu of acid emissions and solid electro bass.
An intelligently delivered and immensely satisfying listen, Synthesis is out now digitally and on vinyl through Tresor. Stream ‘Involvement’ on spotify below.
