Raleigh post punk outfit Truth Club have released their superb debut album Not An Exit. It’s a short and snappy affair clocking in at under a half an hour and therein lies its strength. Lean and insistent, sparse yet at times raucous, its a reflective debut full of insightful observations and mathematical left turns. In March they released the minimalistic wonder that is the album’s title track as a lead single, one that showcases the band’s determination to work intensely on dynamics to great dramatic effect. The third single is ‘Student Housing’, a spatially induced track that sees the band carefully work with a blend of the delicate and the intense. Driving bass lines, a repetitive stripped back melody and Travis Harrington’s post punk inspired vocals that speak to the fleeting yet heady experience of young transient relationships make for an enthralling ride. It follows the more circumspect and plaintive rock inspired ‘Tethering’ released back in April.
