Hot on the heels of their self titled debut long player released in January this year, Chicago post punk quartet French Police return with a compelling new EP Pedaleo Nocturno. Clocking in at just under 15 minutes, the brevity comes with a new wave urgency and a more minimal and angular approach to sound and composition than the one taken on the album. Despite its longing melancholy, an incessant energy abounds throughout the EP as a pacy rhythm and a deliberative beat propel each track forward. Delicately applied synths contribute a dramatic warmth and are the perfect counterpoint for deceptively distant and plaintive vocals. All the while serpentine like bass work provides an immediacy that allows the plethora of instantly memorable hooks and wistfully reflective melodies to weave their magic.

Without a doubt, with Pedaleo Nocturno, French Police have nailed their new wave and post punk aesthetic to the wall and while the EP is an incredibly even affair, its oblique and intoxicating single ‘Je Te Veux’ is a salient example. While you can find it in our New Independent Post Punk Wave Shoegaze & Post Rock Playlist on Spotify here, it’s also below with the buoyant energy of ‘Hildago’.
