Melbourne left field and lo-fi pop duo Stefan Blair and Liam Parsons aka Good Morning, have spent six years, two albums and two EP’s trying their darnedest to convince you they aren’t very good. That forlorn quest continues to no avail with the release last week of two gorgeously delicate new tracks in the form of a double A side. The attention to every minute detail comes through clearly on both and every instrument and note is played like its as precious as a newborn. Every word is as self aware as it is self effacing in its paradoxical nature but the sincerity is palpable.
The first is the hazy crooner ‘Take It Easy For Me, Stranger’, a lesson in humility which Blair says is aimed squarely (and gently) at the sad notion of feeling entitled. The western influenced ‘Boy, I’m Just A Loser For Your Love’ exudes an honest and self deprecating crackling warmth and a rimshot and a slide to die for. According to the owner of its fragile dusky vocals, a plaintive Parsons, is the bands “attempt” at compassionate country and is a;
“a queer country song and a synth country song. It’s definitely queer and it definitely has a synth or two. Whether or not you could call it country is another thing, but hey, we tried.”
Besides the release of these special sonic specimens, which you can listen to below and purchase/stream here, Good Morning have just announced their first ever North American tour. You can check out the dates below too.
