Berlin based Romanian pianist, composer and producer Mischa Blanos has released the spare and searching ‘Pillow Talk’, from his forthcoming album Indoors. It follows on from the crowded and heightened drama of ‘Am Wired’, a rhythmic representation of technology’s growing tendency to produce involved detachment. When taken together as pieces of a cohesive whole, both tracks are more than suggestive thematically and musically of an album salient in focus and diverse in intent.
A surface listen in passing may reveal ‘Pillow Talk’ to be little more than a piano interlude inserted to hold ground in the record’s middle. But a closer inspection reveals a sonic storyteller at his most candid, every delicate note singularly played, seamlessly enjoined. Laying bare a longing for connection and reflecting memories of an intimacy once shared.
