Detroit techno electronic producer Luke Hess has released his latest masterclass in hardware generated techno, Into The Deep. An explorative feel characterises what is essentially a stunning EP with Hess utilising iconic gear to generate and harness a 90’s inspired yet unique blend of sound and movement.
The first two tracks are built around reverb and delay which gives each an otherworldly essence. Opener ‘Breakers’ establishes the quality immediately, its layered rattles of synth emit the drama and tension while its insistent pace is accentuated by a super effective Roland TB-303 generated acid line. ‘Depths’ begins in pensive fashion, a slightly bulbous bass line encases the heightened prophet 6 generated stabs while the juno pads nicely temper their potential power. All the while busy layers of percussion abound to create the duelling pace necessary to the tracks overall allure. Final track ‘Submission’ returns proceedings from reality’s outer depths and is characterised by its electro overtones, old school acid sounds and 808 style beat.
