Columbus left field pop quartet Trying have announced the release of an upcoming new four track EP called I Just Can’t Feel The Rhythm and shared its lead single, ‘That Is Not Your Dirt’. Confounding expectation at every turn, the mixture of rhythmic post punk angularity, acoustic jangle pop, recurring high pitched wail and lo-fi sounding arrangements of clarinet and glockenspiel underline the track’s unconventional feel. They provide the backdrop for a vocal croon that oscillates between heightened intensity and casual detachment reflecting the complexity of navigating through what can be a lonely, anxiety filled existence. In the brief but celebratory finish however, which is marked by anthem like harmonies and group handclaps, Trying serve up a reminder that we don’t have to live that existence alone.
